Wisconsin's Shore-land Management
Program
The name is said to mean "gathering
of the waters" identifies our state with its most bountiful
resource. Our state has: more than 50,000 miles of rivers
and streams, more
than 15,000 inland lakes, about 1,751 square miles of Great
Lakes estuaries and bays, along 1,017 miles of Great Lakes
shoreline, and approximately 5.3 million acres of wetlands.

Did you know that...Floods are the
most common type of natural disaster.
About 200 Americans lose their
lives in floods each year. 90 percent of all Presidential
declarations of emergency or major disaster involve flooding.

Aquatic Nuisance Species Program
The Division of Water has an
active role in the development of strategies to research,
monitor, and control nuisance (exotic) aquatic species in
Wisconsin's waterways. The WDNR works with its many partners,
such as the University of Wisconsin Sea GrantInstitute, the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,
the Minnesota and Michigan DNRs and various additional research
institutions to monitor the presence of the following aquatic
plants and animals

Madison Goose Pond:
Audubon Society
Active in helping to maintain
area sanctuaries for birds and other wildlife, and for natural
habitat restoration. Your membership, donations and support
are very important for making these projects a success! The
Goose Pond Sanctuaries Fund helps support Madison Audubon's
local wildlife sanctuaries, wetland restoration projects,
and prairie restoration projects.
