into the Minnesota River, and is dedicated to coordinating

This site contains information

maps, GIS data, data inventories, watershed projects and publications.

Friends of the Mississippi River
Less than four percent of the
Twin Cities' native landscape remains, and much of it lies
along the Mississippi River. Birds and mammals depend on natural
areas along the river for habitat and migration.

Basin and major watershed planning
MPCA is developing a basin and
major watershed approach for planning and implementing its
programs and activities. The Minnesota River basin is subdivided
into 12 major watersheds, which are distinct hydrologic units.
The landscape, climate, and agronomic characteristics of each
watershed vary considerably.

Minnesota River Watershed Institute
The Minnesota River Watershed
Institute provides training opportunities to individuals and
groups involved with watershed based water quality improvement
and protection. This project involves cooperation from the Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency, the Minnesota River Basin Joint Powers Board and partners
consisting of various locally led watershed organizations
in the Minnesota River Basin.

Great River Greening is a nonprofit,
community-based organization that restores and maintains urban
natural resources throughout the Twin Cities river valleys
in partnership with public and private landowners and citizen
volunteers.

Metropolitan Surface Water Management
Program
Metropolitan Groundwater Management
Program Program purpose: To protect water resources through
the adoption and implementation of local water management
plans based on local priorities. Program history: The Comprehensive
Local Water Planning Program began in 1987 through a pilot
program funded by the Legislative Commission on Minnesota
Resources (LCMR).

Minnesota Board of Water and Soil
Resources (BWSR)
The Minnesota Board of Water
and Soil Resources is a state agency that assists local governments
to manage and conserve their irreplaceable water and soil
resources. The Board of Water and Soil Resources accomplishes
this mission by providing financial, technical, and administrative
help to local governments throughout the state.

Reinvest in Minnesota (RIM)
BWSR (Minnesota Board of Water
and Soil Resources) administers the Reinvest in Minnesota
(RIM) Reserve Program. Its purpose: To protect water quality,
reduce soil erosion, and enhance fish and wildlife habitat
by acquiring conservation easements on environmentally sensitive
lands. The RIM Reserve Program is not truly a grant program
in the same sense that many other BWSR programs are grant
programs.
