Norman Giese Named Swift
County Named 2002 Conservation Cooperator
Recently, my SWCD Board nominated Norman Giese for the
2002 Conservation Cooperator of the year Award. Norman Giese is a large farm
producer that runs several thousand acres in the Upper
Minnesota River Basin.
He was selected by the SWCD for his contributions to
conservation in the ways of reducing erosion, improving water quality, and his
love for the outdoors and his desire to see future generations enjoy the wildlife
that farms and ranches in mid-Minnesota produce. Through the use of conservation
tillage, wetland restorations, CRP filter stripes, CREP, and wildlife tree plantings,
Norman has created an environment
that many folks across the country don't get to see in their lifetime. Norman
has started a wildlife agreement with his neighbors to not shoot young buck
whitetail deer, and to harvest does when their are tags to fill. Norman
encourages parents to bring their youngsters out and enjoy hunting on their
land.
Norman has
adopted conservation tillage measures on his land and the land that he operates,
and has seen major improvements to soil loss on his land. Norman
is a great asset to Swift County.
