Winona Earth Day Celebration: Saturday, April 23rd, 2005
The Winona Earth Day Celebration will be held from 11:00am to 4:00pm on the Winona State University campus in Winona, Minnesota. Events will include a Green Living Fair featuring presentations on Alternative Energy, Green Practices, Food Market and Local Producers Showcase. A wide variety of Educational Booths, Procession of the Species, Silent Sports Spectacular, Locally and Nationally Known Guest Speakers, Silent Sports excursions, and Live Music will also be present. The Silent Sports Spectacular will include guided hiking and birding tours of Winona's trails, bluffs, lakes, prairies, and backwaters. The Food Market and Local Producers Showcase will feature local and organic food presented by local producers and distributors. Live Music will feature: Rachael Kroog, Charlie Parr, and many others. Education, activities, and fun for the whole family!!

International Conference on Rivers and Civilization to be held June 25-28 2006 at UW La Crosse: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Major River Basins
This international conference is the third in a series on major river basins. The first was held at Dubna University (Russia) , along the Volga River in July 2002, and the second at Assiut University (Egypt), along the Nile River in October 2003. This conference is targeted for a multidisciplinary audience from the sciences and humanities. Headlining the conference will be keynote speaker, Jared Diamond, winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Additional invited speakers include internationally renown scholars such as Wendy Doniger (USA), David Dudgeon (China), Fekri Hassan (England), Robert Howard (USA), Donna Mergler (Canada), and Christer Nilsson (Sweden). Conference themes include: ecology of river basins, socioeconomic impact and sustainability, ecological restoration, historical development, literature and the arts, and contemporary water resource use.
